What the field investigates
Work in this area is built on a small set of well-established in-vitro assays. Scratch-wound and transwell assays measure how quickly cultured fibroblasts, keratinocytes or endothelial cells move across or through a barrier. Tube-formation assays in endothelial cells measure angiogenic organisation. Collagen and matrix-protein assays measure what the cells produce after exposure.
Alongside these functional readouts, the literature characterises molecular interactions — for example actin binding by thymosin-beta-4-related fragments, or copper coordination chemistry in copper-peptide complexes — using biophysical and spectroscopic methods.
